The owner of this company is an artist. He does not subcontract the work but resurfaces/repairs hardwood himself. The hardwood kitchen/dining area in our 40 year old home were beautifully resurfaced. Attention to detail was amazing. The white oak wood was brought back to life. Even small imperfections were removed. The work was performed on time. I recommend this company to anyone with hardwood floors who wants professional restoration!

San Diego Hardwoods just completed the refinishing of our maple floors on the entire first floor of our home, and the results are incredible.  The floor, which was in terrible shape, now looks brand new - pristine.  They were the low bidder among four contractors we interviewed, and they were available with a couple weeks notice; so I was a little worried, but we got a phenomenal outcome at a bargain price.  Andy is a perfectionist, treating the finishing of the floors as though it's a work of art.  He was extremely careful, attentive to detail, and kept tweaking the finish until it was perfect.  He was completely trustworthy in our home and very communicative, calling at least twice each day to give us updates as to where the project stood and what our instructions were about walking on the floors.  He does big commercial jobs as well and invited us to visit his worksites to see his team in action, to help us get comfortable with his work product.  I'm congratulating myself that we secured an absolute first-rate outcome at a significant discount to other refinishers we considered.  Feel free to ask Andy to see his before-and-after book. He works on floors of all wood types and in all conditions, as you'll see from his photos.  This company turns out to be one of the best decisions I've made.

I have bamboo floors in my loft that were not in good shape from wear and tear. I researched online and contacted San Diego Hardwoods due to their experience with bamboo floors. I met with Andrew and got to see his extensive portfolio of before and after pictures. I like the fact that as proprietor he works on the job himself. I was still a little uneasy since I knew that reengineered hardwood floors aren't really designed to be refinished (or so I thought) like real hardwood. I don’t remember how it broke down, but to 1) completely refinish the entire second story and stairs, 2) re-install a large section of floor in the master bedroom closet where wood had been chopped out for built-ins, and 3) rip out the existing flooring in the downstairs living room and install new wood that matched the hardwood on the stairs and upstairs.

We choose a commercial grade finish which is the highest end finish he offered and a high quality engineered product downstairs to match the hardwood. (He did find the exact same hardwood that had been installed years before but it would have taken too long to get the matching hardwood for the living room and we didn’t want to wait – the price would have been the same.) I defy anyone to tell that the closet is “patched” or that the living room is not the same hardwood, but engineered. It’s amazing. Andrew is a artistic genius.

My husband and I highly recommend Anrew and his company San Diego Hardwoods. The man knows his craft!, is highly professional, and his work is exquisite. He took some rough ugly beat up floors that had lots of dirt, snags, knot holes and deep scratches and turned them into a work of art that says “brand new perfection.” The floors are absolutely stunning and will last for years and years.

We used a commercial water-based polyurethane that offers maximum durability. A residential grade finish would have been about $1000 less. It may have been enough, but we’ve had wood floors in the past that have gotten pretty scratched so we wanted the max. Another way to have cut cost would have been to have gone with an oil-based polyurethane. This would have saved close to $1500 but takes much longer to cure so it would also have slowed the job down quite a bit.

It would also have cost a bit less if the previous owner hadn’t hacked out the nice hardwood floor in the closet to install some really cheap and ugly shelving units (which we in turn ripped out), but that goes with the territory of buying someone else’s house! Andy completely fixed that ugly scar in the closet floor so you can’t tell it was ever there. Throughout the project, Andrew was terrific to work with, a true professional and an artist as well.
